Euphoria star Alexa Demie is quickly becoming known for her knockout beauty looks, which makes sense since her mom is a makeup artist. “My mom’s a makeup artist and she’s big on skin, so my entire life I’d just hear, ‘Wash your face, wash your face, wash your face, every night,’” she explains in her recent ’90s glam tutorial for Vogue.
“I grew up watching her do makeup. I remember she was working at M.A.C., and she had to do a 10-minute editorial look. So she brought me and I was like 12 years old. And she did the craziest, most beautiful editorial look on me and I loved it. I didn’t want to take it off,” Alexa continues. One of the tips Alexa’s mom imparted on her? Always blend your eyeshadow.
It’s clear that Alexa’s early brush-ins with makeup made an impact. The actress still loves experimenting with makeup looks and took a hands-on approach to her Euphoriacharacter Maddy’s makeup by making elaborate mood boards and collaborating with the makeup artists on set, she explained in the Vogue video.
“Maddy’s makeup is designed to be this elaborate armor that she wears each day,” Euphoria makeup artist Doniella Davy told Teen Vogue in an interview. “She really is a diehard romantic, but she is also in an abusive relationship with her…boyfriend, and her parents are in this loveless relationship, as she describes it.” The artist explains that Maddy uses makeup as a way to survive each day. “I think it helps her just feel fierce, and that she can transcend these certain things that are holding her back emotionally in life.”
To celebrate Alexa’s IRL beauty looks, we rounded up a chronological look at our favorites below.
Alexa’s first Instagram post makes a point: Makeup isn’t just for your face. In this all-over body art look, Alexa perches on a couch adorned with butterflies and morphs into a leopard. The look has serious prowess to it, getting us ready for more killer looks to come.
If you’re ever on the fence about what lip color to wear, Alexa proves that matching your lip to your shirt is always a safe bet. To neutralize the bold lip choice, Alexa keeps the rest of the makeup look simple.
A work of art:
“I’d always do my own wings [on the set of Euphoria], because that’s my signature thing,” Alexa explains in her Vogue beauty video. In the video, she uses a Pat McGrath eyeliner pen and effortlessly flicks the pen up to create the perfect wing. She makes it look so easy.
We can’t tell if Alexa’s cheekbones are naturally this pronounced or if it’s the work of her expert contouring, and that’s the point. A good makeup look keeps the viewer guessing if you were “born with it,” or if it’s a blended swipe of contour. Plus, the blue-sparkly eyeshadows match Alexa’s jewels and are an ode to ’90s glam.
A baby-face no-makeup-makeup look:
Alexa proves the importance of skin care (“wash your face!”) with this no-makeup-makeup look. She keeps it super simple with just a hint of eyeliner, letting her glowy skin take center stage.
Purple princess eyeshadow:
As we’ve previously reported, brightly colored eyeshadow is in this season. Alexa takes our breath away with this purple-pink gradation look. We can’t wait to try this at home, just remember to BLEND!
A winged liner worthy of Cleopatra:
Alexa keeps it bold at the red carpet premiere of Euphoria with a cat eyeliner that wraps around her entire eye. MEEOW!!!
