It took a crew of 40 people more than two days to create Cardi B and Offset’s opulent baby shower in Atlanta. The rapper, her event planner, Karleen Roy, and event designer Michelle Gainey of Lemiga Events, envisioned a “Bronx fairy-tale”—or, as Roy puts it, “a magical and imaginary Bronx land fit for the quintessential baby girl . . . only this time there is a plot twist in this lavish story: It’s a magical, whimsical land, but for the culture!”
The fantastical setup featured more than 26,000 pink and white flowers, done by C.Wayman Floral & Events. Blooms burst out of 6 train subway car replicas, while others were crafted into a menagerie of animals including a momma and baby giraffe. The true showstopper was a 16-foot floral facade.
And what would any New York re-creation be without its neighborhood staple—the bodega? Instead of selling breakfast sandwiches and packs of chewing gum however, the Bardi Baby Bodega contained baby bottles and diapers wrapped in pink ribbon. Nearby was the Bardi Baby Book Library, its shelves stocked with Latina and African-American children’s books like Buenas Noches, Luna and Viva Frida
Guests snacked on custom-made piraguas, sliced fruit, and soul food, while sipping on coquito cocktails and Hennessy shots (a nod to Cardi B’s sister). The culinary pièce de résistance was a five-tier cake, each layer a different Cardi-favorite flavor: Dominican pineapple, strawberry, red velvet, chocolate ganache, and honey bun.
In true Cardi B style, she kept her guests entertained. Orchestra Noir, a hip-hop orchestra group, and the Ballethnic Dance Company performed for the crowd.
For party favors, the couple gave their guests custom purple baby blankets, a nod to the epic portrait shawl Cardi once wore to the airport.
In “Bodak Yellow,“ Cardi B raps, “They see pictures, they say goals.” Seeing this baby shower, that certainly rings true.
